Bantha Milk Hot Chocolate

This year for Halloween we decided to have a Star Wars marathon for two reasons:

  1. We love episodes 4-6 and wanted to rewatch them before the new movie comes out.
  2. We wanted to stay in and have a clam day with friends.

Both were accomplished.  A few people came over to enjoys these movie and we pigged out all day on junk food.  I spent the night before and the morning of in the kitchen baking homemade pretzels, coco-spiced molasses cookies, storm trooper marshmellows, and crock pot Bantha Milk hot chocolate.

Everything was devoured during the marathon…it took us from 1pm to 9pm to get through all the moves.   Between episode 4 and 5 we took a break while my friend from grad school and her husband headed over.  Then after episode 5, we took another break to get some air.  It was a beautiful day out, so we hung out on our balcony and joked around for a while.   After a quick trip to drop one friend off at the metro to go home, we sat down to watch episode 6.

These movies are seriously classic and timeless.  They stand up to rewatching.  If you haven’t seen them, what are you waiting for?   One piece of advice, make sure to watch them in the order they were made, leaving the prequels for the end.  A friend of ours did what I would call a terrible experiment on his girlfriend who hadn’t seen any of them.  He showed her them in consecutive order, starting with episode 1.  She liked the prequels and thought episode 4-6 were stripped down.

Odd experiments aside, watch these movies. Make this Bantha milk, it’ll give you a jolt of sugar to sustain hours of movie viewing.  It’s simple and festive and was a great hit.

Bantha Milk Hot Chocolate


  • 4 cups Almond Milk (I used Silk Original)
  • 2 cans full fat coconut milk
  • 2 12oz bags of white chocolate  (I used Tollhouse Premire Morsels, White)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Blue food coloring


  1. Pour the white chocolate into bottom of crock pot
  2. Add milk, spices, cinnamon stick, and vanilla
  3. Open the cans of coconut milk and scoop the thick white part into the crock pot.  Pour liquid into a tuperware and save for smoothies.
  4. Cook on low for 2 hours, stirring every 20-30 minutes.
  5. At the end of 2 hours all ingredients should be melted down into a nice creamy white hot chocolate.
  6. Add 6-10 drops of blue food coloring, stir and serve.

NOTE: Once this is served up, turn the crock pot off.  Drink hot, because if left to sit for more than an hour the chocolate and coconut milk will begin to set and harden.  To avoid this, leave the crock pot on warm once the hot chocolate has cooked for 2 hours.

This treat is so rich, creamy, and sweet that one cup is enough warm you up for the autumn season, and satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooths.

I normally try very hard to avoid sugar and have been trying extra hard to avoid dairy as well. My mom is lactose intolerant, and the more I research it, the more I’m convinced that milk, and milk products, aren’t that great for adults. Cheese and chocolate are the two foods I haven’t found a good substitute for yet, and so this recipe is close to vegan, but not there yet. If anyone knows of a good vegan white chocolate brand for melting, let me know about it in the comments.
